Founder and Managing Director

Dr. Zuko Mdandalaza

Zuko Mdandalaza is a finance professional of great distinction, backed by an extensive academic background and a wealth of practical expertise. He holds a Phd in Development Finance from Nelson Mandela University and has obtained various academic programs from Wits Business School and Stellenbosch Business School.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Zuko possesses an impressive array of technical qualifications. He is a certified Financial Modeller and holds the esteemed Financial Advisory Intermediary Service (FAIS) accreditation, enabling him to offer critical financial advice to clients. His expertise also includes certificates in Public – Private Partnership and Corporate Governance.

 

Zuko’s career trajectory is equally remarkable. He is the visionary founder and Managing Director of Hoto Capital (Pty) Ltd, a specialized firm providing bespoke financial advisory services. Excelling in corporate finance, structured finance, mergers & acquisitions, and project finance solutions, his company is a trusted name in the industry.

Zuko embarked on his professional journey in 2003 as a Project Finance Trainee at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and has since made significant contributions. He held pivotal roles at Absa Bank Limited, the Industrial Development Corporation (“IDC”), and other esteemed institutions. In 2008, he ventured into entrepreneurship by founding Memela Project Finance.

His international experience expanded when he joined the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of SA (“ECIC”) in 2015 as a Deal Originator. During his tenure, Zuko underwrote Export Credit Backed (“ECA”) loans for projects exceeding US$2 billion, including major initiatives such as the Nacala Rail Development Corridor, Cenpower Gas Power Generation Project, Kipio Copper mine, and the Zim Border Post Project.

Zuko’s expertise extends to roles at the Independent Power Producer (“IPP”) office and the Department of Trade and Industry, where he played pivotal adjudicative roles. Actively engaged in mentoring and advising aspiring entrepreneurs, he also maintains vested interests in numerous small and medium-sized businesses.

Zuko’s remarkable journey, enriched by his experience and expertise in due diligence and project finance, solidifies his status as a highly respected professional in the financial industry. Project Manager

Luyolo Warren Nyangintsimbi

Luyolo Warren Nyangintsimbi is a versatile professional poised to make a significant impact at Hoto Capital (Pty) Ltd. With a robust educational background, Luyolo holds a National Diploma in Sports Management from (TUT) Tshwane University of Technology and an Advanced Diploma in Applied Management from (CUT) Central University of Technology. He recently completed his LLB degree at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in December 2023 and is concurrently pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management at Central University of Technology, expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Complementing their academic achievements, Luyolo boasts a versatile technical skill set. This includes Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification, as well as participation in a PMP Virtual Training Course. These technical qualifications showcase Luyolo’s proficiency in project management methodologies and practices.

In practice, Luyolo has held roles of significant responsibility. Notably, as a Project Team Leader in the Provincial Scanning and Records Management Project for the Department of Employment and Labor Compensation Fund, Luyolo successfully oversaw the migration of claim numbers onto the Comp Easy System, a pivotal step toward more efficient records management.

Furthermore, Luyolo has demonstrated exceptional project management skills as a Project Manager for the Sondela Youth Festival. In this role, Luyolo managed a team of 20-30 individuals and a budget of R7,500,000, orchestrating the entire event, from planning and budgeting to execution. This encompassed budget management, vendor negotiation, personnel hiring, and stakeholder relations, all aimed at fostering youth empowerment.

In addition to their project management roles, Luyolo has also served as a Bid Evaluation Committee Member at the Free State Provincial Office. In this capacity, they played a pivotal role in evaluating bids and ensuring compliance with government regulations.

Luyolo’s extensive educational achievements and practical experiences make them an invaluable asset, poised to contribute significantly to the ongoing success of Hoto Capital.

Legal Counsel

Rachel Langa

Mrs. Rachel Langa is a distinguished Project Development and Finance Lawyer with extensive experience in the oil and gas, infrastructure, construction, and mining sectors. Her academic and professional journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence and her deep understanding of complex legal landscapes.

Rachel’s academic achievements include a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) in Project Finance (Oil and Gas) obtained from the esteemed University of Reading in the United Kingdom. This advanced degree signifies her dedication to gaining specialized knowledge in a field known for its intricacies. Her robust legal foundation is rooted in a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) earned from the University of Zululand in South Africa.

Her professional journey commenced with a pivotal role as a law clerk for the judges at the Constitutional Court of South Africa. This early experience allowed her to gain invaluable insights into constitutional law and the inner workings of the judicial system. It provided her with a strong foundation for her subsequent legal career.

Transitioning into private practice, Rachel was exposed to a diverse array of legal fields, including project development, banking, financing, and more. These experiences equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the legal intricacies involved in complex projects and cross-border transactions.

One of Rachel’s standout achievements is her diverse portfolio of clients. She has served as legal counsel for a broad spectrum of financiers, including commercial banks and private equity investors. This experience provided her with an in-depth understanding of the financial aspects of projects and transactions, adding depth to her legal expertise.

Moreover, Mrs. Langa’s career extends to representing development finance institutions, export credit agencies, and project sponsors/developers. Her experience spans different projects, enabling her to develop the versatility and adaptability required in the complex world of project development and finance.

Rachel excels in cross-border transactions across various industries, including energy, mining, railway, port infrastructure, and LNG projects. Her guidance spans agreements in sectors like railway corridors, port infrastructure, mining, and energy.
